Illinois Review: The case for HB 1100, the driver certificate bill4 Apr 2007 by IR Editor
In fact DW/OL should result in impounding the car until the real licensee appears. Tow truck drivers will love that. And then we have the ability to get a car license and renew it without a driver's license, but this certificate. Safety? Hah That is aphony issue. .... In the second paragraph, Froelich tries to shift blame for his claimed half-million illegals in Illinois solely to the "massive failure of the federal government to enforce federal immigration laws". ...

    State of Virginia: “15 Over? That’ll be $3550.” - CarDomain Blog27 Jun 2007 by CarDomain.Com
Glad to live in Illinois, where cop don’t care anyways. You do 80 in a 55 and if you are nice, the State Trooper will let you go and just tell you to slow down. And even if you are a dick, the fine for the speeding is like $75 (or at least ... I agree that is to much money, but i agree with the other guy, it is probably the court cost and getting your car out of impound that totals that much. I like speeding as much as the next guy but some people just take it to far. ...

They openly break Illinois law regarding the cameras simply to rake in cash for their unbalanced city budgets -- not purely for safety, as the law intended. I'd love to get a red light ticket because I'd take the damn city and Daley all the way up ... And as for offering payment help for the poor who's cars get booted, pray tell how does that work? Once the boot goes on, it STAYS on until the driver coughs up hundreds or thousands in fines, impound fees, and towing fees. ...

They Search Because They Care | FlexYourRights.org21 Oct 2005
The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.”— Aynn Rand, from the novel Atlas Shrugged ... Taking inventory of the contents of an impounded car is entirely permissible under the law, so the police who really want to search and are patient enough just impound the car. ...

Government can Seize your Laptop at the Border31 Jul 2008 by Steven Taylor
I don't think the issue of searching for illegal materials at the borders is covered by the Fourth Amendment and from my p.o.v. searching at the borders is less disruptive of civic unity than say cop cars driving through cities with infrared detectors .... My argument is simply that it ought to be within the government's power, as part of border security, to do this sort of inspection and, sometimes, impoundment (not permanent seizure) for more detailed inspection. ...
